Magnus Sodamin: Gateway (between the sun and moon)

Visión general

Gateway (between the sun and moon) is a site-specific installation, part of an ongoing series by Magnus Sodamin titled Reflections of Florida Wild.

Gateway extends above MOCA’s pond and is a whimsical representation of Florida’s wildlife, engaging viewers in a reflection on the fragility and vulnerability of our natural environment. Guests are invited to step closer for a deeper look at the silhouettes of indigenous animals and plants vital to Florida’s ecosystem, including the Florida panther, the flamingo, the osprey, the owl, the deer, mangroves and saw palm. The warm pink tones of Gateway are intentionally chosen to contrast against the turquoise sky, allowing for deeper connection and meditation on the natural beauty of our Floridian world.

About the artist

Born in Manhattan, New York (1987) Sodamin lives and works in Miami. He spent a year developing his painting practice in Lillehammer, Norway at the Nansenskolen, a humanitarian institute that focuses on cross-cultural exchange. Sodamin explores practices ranging from painting, textile, ceramic and drawing. Selected solo shows include "Wild Altar" (Dot Fifty-One Gallery, 2021), "Impressions of Our Landscape" (Primary Projects, 2017), and "Infinity Split" (Primary Projects, 2015). Residencies include Agder Kunst Center, Norway (2020), Vermont Studio Center (2018), Airie, Everglades(2017), Museums Quartier, Vienna (2015) and Deering Estate in Miami, Florida (2015).
